THE BUSH CAMP FARAWAY BAY

Exclusive Camp on the Kimberley Coast

Bruce and Robyn Ellison have made their home in one of Australia’s most remote and wildest coastal spots, in the very northwest corner of the vast continent at a place not even noted on maps. This is a place where time is measured in sunsets and tides; where you can be as sociable or solitary as you like here.

Hosts: Bruce & Robyn Ellison

Accommodation / Meals: Each of the 8 bush-style cabins enjoys a 180-degree view of the ocean. Mosquito nets, safari chairs, and a fan give each cabin a rustic but comfortable feel. Facilities, while not ensuite, are nearby and hot water for showers is always available. There is a freshwater swim-ming pool perched on the edge of the cliff looking across the bay.

The camp has an open style kitchen and dining area with a paved terrace – just the spot for a sundowner drink as the sun descends across the ocean and sets the red sandstone cliffs aglow. Bruce hosts breakfast and dinner with dinners often being seafood or BBQ.

Activities: Day cruises up the Kimberley coast to the King George River, where after the wet season the falls cascade over a hundred foot cliff into the gorge below. Along the way stop off at one of the pristine beaches for a walk – swimming is not an option and it is better to view sharks and crocodiles from the safety of the camp.

A coastal trip south of the camp to Monitor Pool, a magnificent circular plunge pool at the foot of imposing basalt and sandstone cliffs, and a refreshingly cool and safe place for swimming.

Lesueur Island: Guests can go walking, fishing or just relax on the island. If you want to try to catch some fish en route to the island, you can enjoy a beach BBQ for lunch.

Wildlife includes crocodiles, sharks, turtles and occasionally dugongs, which can be viewed from the camp. Wallabies, other bush wildlife and birds can be seen on bush walks behind the camp.
