ROSE GUMS

Rainforest Retreat in Queensland

Jon and Peta Nott have created a delightful private retreat perched on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range, with spectacular views across the rainforest towards Queensland’s highest peaks. Set amongst 230 acres of rainforest and eucalypt forest on the edge of the World Heritage area, Rose Gums provides a sanctuary amongst the sights and sounds of the tropical rainforest. With the care of true conservationists, Jon and Peta have restored the native vegetation on the property and with it has come a profusion of birdlife and many of the forest’s mammals.

The pleasure from spending a quiet hour on the banks of Butcher’s Creek amongst the buzz of rainforest sounds is an experience in itself, however, the ultimate reward is in spotting an elusive platypus. It is the birds of the rainforest and Jon’s knowledge of them that make Rose Gums unique. Rose Gums style leaves you very much to enjoy the rainforest at your own leisure or with the services of an expert local guide.

Hosts: Jon & Peta Nott

Accommodation / Meals: There are four pole and timber chalets, each with a private living area and balcony with views to the ranges, a kitchen, spa bathroom with separate shower. Jon & Peta’s style allows you an evening to yourself, with a full three-course dinner specially delivered by the local inn in Yungaburra, for your own private rainforest dining experience.

Activities: Rainforest walks on the property – walking maps provided, or guided walks with Jon.

Birdwatching – over 160 species recorded (have an evening sundowner and watch the Sarus Cranes flying in). A resident cassowary is a rare sighting.

Wildlife viewing - pademelons, possums, platypus and tree kangaroos. Walking tracks in Wooroonooran National Park.

The Atherton Tablelands played host to Queensland’s early settlement and the region is full of these historic reminders, best enjoyed with the knowledge of a local guide.
