Hey Blue
Puunyart Station
Great Australian Stations & Homesteads
A federation homestead in Victoria's pastoral country

Puunyart, one of Victoria’s oldest properties, has been farmed by the Wilson family since the 1930s. You can spend the day seeing the daily activities of this 2,500 acre property, watching sheep dogs at work, seeing the shearing in season and learning how to select the finest quality Australian wool. It is also a unique opportunity to learn something of Australia’s history with the collection of memorabilia, antiques and aboriginal artefacts that Jim Wilson has built up over the years which, together with his huge knowledge, will take you through the early years of Australia’s development. In the evenings, the combination of Jim and Diana’s hospitality and the fresh produce from the garden and farm provide for an excellent evening at home. The region was one of the first areas of Australia to be settled and in season can resemble more an English rural scene than the stereotyped harsh Australian environment. Only two hours to the northwest are the Grampian mountains, whose ramparts still harbour a huge variety of wildlife and wilderness, while to the south lies some of Australia’s most famous coastline, visible from the spectacular drive along the Great Ocean road.

 Hosts: Jim & Diana Wilson

Accommodation / Meals: There are 3 guest rooms (2 with ensuite) in the main house. The Wilson’s have retained vestiges of their Scottish heritage (look for the small herd of Highland cattle near the homestead) and the main hall is reminiscent of a Scottish country house. Off the main hall is the sitting room - a relaxing place to sit back with a drink or good book in the evening. Dinner is a 3-course meal taken with the Wilsons and is served with excellent local wines. While breakfast is served in the conservatory. There is also a billiard room, swimming pool and tennis court.

Activities: Trips on the property take in the daily activities of the farm (shearing, sheep dogs at work). Trips to local area include a resident koala population and, a little further afield, the Great Ocean Road on Victoria’s south coast. Jim’s private collection of Australiana provides a fascinating look into Australia’s history before and after European settlement.
