LOCATION
Amanjena, the first Amanresort on the African continent, is scheduled to open in November
1999. Amanjena means "peaceful paradise".
Located in Morocco, Amanjena's 34 pavilions and seven, two-storey maisons are set within
the Palmeraie, an oasis of palm and old olive trees. Earth-toned Marrakech, with its
gardens and its souks, its art and craft and compelling culture, is just seven kilometers
away. The resort is situated alongside an 18-hole golf course, with a second course less
than a kilometer away. Amanjena looks out over the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains. |
|
|
Amanjena's distinctive Moorish presence begins with
the high earthen walls that frame the resort. |

dressing area. The living area consists of a high, domed ceiling, a king-size bed, a day
bed and an open fireplace. There's also a mini-bar, a CD player and a TV/VCR. Green
Moroccan marble and a soaking tub in a garden setting highlight the bathroom.
Each pavilion also enjoys a private courtyard complemented by a
gazebo, a lounge sofa and a dining area. |

An upstairs master bedroom and bathroom distinguish
Amanjena's seven, two-bedroom maisons. The maisons also come with a private swimming pool
and gazebo. Three of the maisons, Le Poivrier, L'Olivier and Le Palmier, are favoured with

| ACTIVITIES Bordered to the
north by the Mediterranean Sea (Spain is only an hour's ferry ride away) and on the west
by the Atlantic Ocean, Morocco is blessed with beaches. Add to this the four dominating
mountain ranges, the great oases and dunes of the Sahara and the blended cultures of the
Arabs, Berbers, Africans and Europeans - Moroccans all - and you have a subtropical land
of remarkable geographic, climatic and cultural diversity.
Marrakech has long captured the imagination of writers and artists. Founded nearly
1000 years ago, the heart of the city lies in the ancient quarter, an inner world of
winding lanes, souks and streams of Marrakechine merchants and shoppers wrapped in cotton
or wool djellabas. Come sunset Marrakech's ancient Place Djemaa el-Fna takes on the magic
of the Arabian nights, the vast city square teeming with storytellers, fortune-tellers,
magicians, snake charmers and dancers.
Day trips from Marrakech include the seaside town of Essaouira and the cool hiking
trails and remote Berber villages of the High Atlas Mountains. |
