Additional Pilot Notes:

Conditions

The strip has been graded and rolled and is smooth grass/dirt.  Due to its location near the coast it can encounter strong cross winds at certain times of the day.

Hazards

Beware power lines:

  • to the East of the strip running roughly north south.  Right hand circuit should be used when using runway 19 to keep well clear of the line and the house on the hill; and
  • running to dam toward strip from the house on the hill.

Beware after heavy rain area where drain crosses strip approximately 300m into runway 19.  A trench was dug to place pipes under the strip and this area can still be soft after heavy rain.  Note that drains exist at this point in the flyover zone on both the East & West of the airstrip.

Kangaroo hazard exists especially early in the morning and the evening.  Ensure no Kangaroos are on or close to the strip before use.  Don't forget we are in the middle of a National Park and the roos just love the soft grass on the strip.

Runway Slope

The strip has some undulation.  However, the ends are on the same level.  When landing on runway 19 it is level for approximately 200m with a slight down slope for 100m before rising to a crest after a further 200m with a down slope to the end.
